FocusFlow
v0.2.0 · free and open source

Record your Mac.
The clicks animate themselves.

A native screen recorder and motion editor in one window. Capture a window, a display or a single Chrome tab — every click becomes a smooth, eased zoom before you touch the timeline.

A recorder and an editor, in one window

No round trip to a second app. Stop the recording and you are already in the timeline.

01

Record what you choose

A window, a display, or one Chrome tab. Drag out a region to keep a single pane and leave the toolbar out of frame.

02

Clicks become zooms

Click activity is grouped and turned into eased zooms automatically. Adjust the timing, or let the camera follow the cursor.

03

Hide what is private

Blur regions with editable size and timing. One button blurs the whole frame, and regions can overlap.

04

Export it

MP4 through a shared Core Image renderer, so the preview you scrub is the frame you ship.

Built for demos that have to be legible

The details that make a screen recording readable, handled by default.

A real macOS frame that holds still

An editable light or dark window frame with working traffic lights, an optional title and adjustable title-bar height. It stays fixed while the content zooms underneath it.

  • Non-destructive crop to a tab or a single pane
  • Canvas fitting preserves the content instead of clipping it
  • Source, landscape, portrait, square and 4:3 canvases

A cursor you can actually follow

Bounded smooth interpolation keeps the pointer readable at any zoom, with outlined styles, a gentle movement tilt, and click effects that still read on a small screen.

  • Ripple, pulse and press click effects
  • Keyboard shortcut badges — ordinary typed text is never collected
  • Four accent colours, adjustable size and shadow
⌘ ⇧ 4

A timeline that does the obvious things

Scrub, move and resize segments, split at the playhead, duplicate, delete, undo and redo. Trim markers and playback speed stay non-destructive.

  • A separate camera layer you drag directly on the preview
  • Timed spotlights and text callouts with preview positioning
  • Automatic local saving, plus explicit project files

It never leaves your Mac

No account, no telemetry, no upload step. Recordings are written straight to your disk, and the Chrome companion runs on your own machine.

Written locally

Recordings and projects land in ~/Movies/FocusFlow, deletable through the Trash.

A private loopback

Tab capture binds a random port on 127.0.0.1 with a per-session token and same-origin checks.

Permissions on demand

Camera and microphone are requested only when you switch them on, never at launch.

Readable source

MIT licensed, built with SwiftUI and ScreenCaptureKit. Read it, or build it yourself.

Installing takes one paste

Press the button, then paste into Terminal. Nothing to download by hand.

01

Copy, then paste into Terminal

The command fetches the disk image from GitHub Releases, copies FocusFlow into Applications, and clears the download quarantine flag — with a live progress bar while it runs.

02

Why the quarantine step is there

FocusFlow is signed ad‑hoc rather than with a paid Developer ID, so Gatekeeper would otherwise refuse the first launch. If you take the .dmg from the button instead, right‑click the app and choose Open the first time.

03

Allow Screen Recording

macOS asks on your first recording. FocusFlow then appears under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.

04

Or build it from source

Clone the repo and run ./build-app.sh. Requires macOS 14+ and the Apple Command Line Tools; ./check.sh runs the tests.

Your next demo, without the edit

Free, open source, and about four megabytes. Paste one line and it is on your Mac.
